Norfolk in a Nutshell, Guided Riverside Walks

Please note: These walks start on 20th May 2021 and leave from the Wind Energy Museum

‘New’ this year is our Norfolk in a Nutshell walk. Lead by one of our guides you will take a leisurely stroll along the riverbank to Thurne Mill. Meet the Marshman and see the mill working (wind permitting). Pop into the village shop for an ice-cream before heading back through the woods to the museum! Here you will have a guided tour with working demonstrations. If there is any time left feel free to have homemade cake, or a strawberry cream tea in our Heritage Hut Tea Room…the walk is approx. 5 miles, please where appropriate clothes and footwear – it may not be suitable for all, please call for more information. 07796407864

Birthday Weekend 7th & 8th August 2021

To celebrate Thurne Mills 200th Birthday Year we are holding a special regatta weekend with a sail past and an exclusive race for sailing boats aged 100 years or older.

River cruisers & half deckers are welcome.

Entry fee £10 per boat

We hope to start and finish at Thurne Dyke, but this may be subject to change.

The program is as follows: -

SATURDAY 15th August 2020

Gather at Thurne Dyke during the morning.

Entries can be taken on arrival subject to availability.

2pm Race 1 - split starts if necessary

3pm - the birthday party in the playing field begins, followed by live entertainment at The Lion, a lovely way to finish off the evening. Children’s activities, beer tent, BBQ!

4.30pm (approx.) – an evening sail past all boats welcome & please decorate if possible

SUNDAY 16th August 2020

10.30am - Race 2 - split starts if necessary

12.30pm - Race 3 - the Centenarians Thurne Mill Anniversary race for boats aged 100 years plus

Prize for the best decorated – RACE SPONSORED - The Wynmill Trophy

2.30pm - Race 4 - split starts if necessary

Prize giving will take place by Thurne Mill, subject to weather conditions on the day, or at the Lion where certificates will be issued to everyone taking part with trophy presentations to the winners & runners up.

BOTH DAYS – ALL DAY

The Mill will be open and turning (wind permitting)

If possible, please book boats in by 31st July 2020 to give us an idea of numbers.

Late entries maybe available but not guaranteed.
