Donations to Thurne Mill and the Wind Energy Museum
Donations play a crucial role in preserving the heritage of wind power, ensuring that the rich history and innovative spirit of this renewable energy source are maintained for future generations. By supporting educational programs and restoration projects, contributions help strengthen community awareness and appreciation for wind power's role in sustainable development. This commitment not only safeguards traditional knowledge and practices but also fosters a culture of inquiry and innovation, engaging learners with the vital lessons of our past while inspiring advancements that will shape the future of energy. As we invest in both heritage and education, we empower communities to explore the potential of wind power and envision a sustainable world built on its legacy.
The big 200th birthday repaint preparations……………….
Philip of Huge Crane so kindly provided a pressure washer for us to pressure was sand clean the mill before the big repaint in 2018. Our local farmer John was instrumental in helping with the height problems we encountered and our volunteers where just unbelievable - great thanks goes to eryone who help us to the next stage.
The volunteers got absolutely soaked and covered in the loose paint chipping off.
What would we do without our farmers! Thank you
The next stage in the great ‘We are dreaming of a white windmill’ project was to raise funds to secure the cost of scaffolding, paint and materials.
We even had a visit from Countryfile and Matt Baker and his team.
In April 2018 the scaffolding began to go up…at last the mill would get ready for 2020!
By the end of the summer 2019 the mill looked stunning, thanks to Hugh Crane, John Mitchell, Roll up my Sleeves and of course the magnificent volunteers. Unfortunately COVID hit and we still have not held our 200 year celebrations! Now 206 years old still working and loved by so many. Next step now in 2026 is to repaint again!
